Letter to the Editor from Judy Embanks
Take a moment this evening to read this inspiring letter from Judy Embanks. What a great example of the wonderful people in CD2, people who deserve better representation in government. Newsletter: Jim’s 2017 in Review
Happy New Year! I hope you had a refreshing and wonderful holiday season. Thank you for your support over this year, here’s some of my highlights. I put tens of thousands of miles on my Prius this past year. In 2017 I presented at, spoke to, joined in, and learned from 181+ engagements. These included marches […]
Social Security; a word from Jim
The maximum amount of wages subject to the Social Security tax is $127,200. I would propose that there be no cap on the maximum amount of taxable earnings so that all taxable earnings are subject to the social security tax. This would mean that everyone pays the same percentage of their earnings into Social Security. […]

Call to action by Oregon’s District 2 – Indivisible. The new chairman of the FCC was a top lawyer at Verizon. Now he is calling for a vote to kill net neutrality. To accomplish big things one needs to dream big. We used to dream big but, in the past 30 years, we seem to have lost that ability. Dreaming big: · put a man on the Moon; · built the Interstate highways; and · built dams on the Colorado, Missouri and Columbia rivers. Dreaming big not only gave us tangible assets but also provided lots of good paying jobs. Here are two of my big dreams: 1. Placing solar panel roofs over our highways and railroads. This would: a. Contribute an enormous amount of clean, renewable energy to help us get off of fossil fuels; b. Be cheaper than placing solar farms on private land because the land is public; c. Create many well paying engineering, manufacturing and construction jobs; d. Allow easy tie-in into the grid because electric transmission lines often run next to highways and railways; e. Improve vehicle efficiency because vehicles would use less air conditioning; f. reduce potholes, snowplowing and black ice by keeping more rain and snow off the roads. 2. Put solar on every rooftop. I would like to see tax incentives and grants that would put rooftop solar on every rooftop. Not only would this help us get off of fossil fuels more quickly and create many good paying jobs but it would also help people save money on their monthly electric bill and could also help them save money on their motor vehicle fuel bill if they drove an electric vehicle. Some people may call these ideas "pie in the sky" or unrealistic. I would simply reply they are in the same vein as the ideas that made America the envy of the world.
