Take a moment this evening to read this inspiring letter from Judy Embanks. What a great example of the wonderful people in CD2, people who deserve better representation in government. Join me this year to give a voice to the people!
We are all part of one world: act like it
Although there have been rough times before — for me personally — I can truly say that this past year has been the most stressful, i.e. terrifying, in my entire life. The un-civil talk and behavior all around the country is unbelievable. Waking up every day to hear more lies and allegations is like a slap in the face of humanity.
We have come to the point when I just cannot stay quiet. This is no attempt to change anybody’s political views. Heaven knows, nobody could change mine. It’s not the “identity” of aligning with political parties that is upsetting. It’s the clear and present danger of our country becoming one with absolutely no moral compass.
Anybody seen the photo from Apollo 8 of “Earth-rise”? Does it appear to be “one world”? No matter how much our leaders yell that “we are in it for ourselves,” it cannot be true. This is one planet. We must take care of it and each other. There are no borders as seen from out there. What we do with our CO 2 matters to the rest of the planet. It matters to the land, to food, to water. How we treat each other matters to the rest of the world. Being nice to people matters. It is not just about being “polite” or about showing we are “strong.” It matters that we can deal with other people, other beliefs, other governments. It matters that we are able to live among people who are not culturally/spiritually the same as us.
It does not matter to me if you are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, Buddhist, Atheist, Hindu, or whatever. We are all souls on this Earth. We cannot isolate ourselves. My faith tells me that above all else we must love one another. It does not tell me to judge other people and tell them they are lazy and need to work. It does not tell me to ignore the poor or infirmed or elderly or disabled and let them fend for themselves. It does not tell me to believe “I got mine, you get yours.” It does not tell me that it’s OK for a quarter of all kids to go hungry every day. It does not tell me that it’s OK to foul my water/land because I can do with it what I want. Have you heard of the SDGs? Sustainable Development Goals. They were adopted by the UN back in 2005 by 150 countries as “Millennium Development Goals.” From the original 8, they have been further revised to 17. These are worldwide goals that we all need to work to achieve: Poverty, hunger and food security, health, education, gender equality and women’s empowerment, water and sanitation, energy, economic growth, infrastructure, industrialization, inequality, cities, sustainable consumption and production, climate change, oceans, biodiversity, forests, desertification, peace, justice and strong institutions, partnerships.
Go to the website and read how each one of us can make a difference.
It is foolish for our government to believe that we can do this alone and make America great again. We are being led by a lying, narcissistic, vengeful, dangerous autocrat who does not know/understand, or care about democracy. He is dysfunctional, politically illiterate and oblivious to the realities of the world. He is being fed information by lobbyists with their own $$$$$ interests in mind. And he is being supported by a Congress which lacks the competence to confront him for fear of losing their own job.
Money, money, money. Follow the money. The passage of this insane tax act is the last straw for me. It is not good for Ord. 2. It is not good for this country. It is not a moral tax 3, 2018 plan. It does not support any of the ideals this country stands for. The hype around this tax plan, like everything coming out of this administration, has an ambivalent relationship with the truth, (words of Jon Meacham, TY). Our children’s future is more important to me than anything.
I will fight and fight and fight every single day to vote out anybody who had a hand in it. This administration does not speak for me and I will speak with my vote. Please join me.
