Combating Global Warming
Man-made global warming is absolutely real (See: https://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/). With such overwhelming proof of global warming, we must wean ourselves off fossil fuels now! Global warming will adversely affect agriculture, biodiversity and low lying coastal cities. To combat climate change I would be in favor of a carbon tax (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_tax). Even some Republicans favor a carbon tax ( See: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/02/a-republican-proposal-for-a-carbon-tax-okay/516048/ ):
To further prevent global warming I would also subsidize and encourage:
- renewable energy production and research. Two local examples of what I would like to see are OIT’s energy self-reliant campus (see: www.oit.edu/sustainability/clean-energy ) and Lakeview’s use of solar and geothermal power; and
- the purchase of electric/high mpg (i.e. >55 mpg) motor vehicles.
No longer can we fiddle while Rome, Oregon, and the whole world literally burns.
